Married to my first love, Momma of 2 (Mason and Weston). Dog mom to Tippon. North Carolina born but Virginia lover at heart.

hi there!
I'm arli.

Swannanoa On Afton Mountain , Virginia

September 1, 2020

When Brooke emailed me and suggested a venue she and Mark stumbled upon by chance my jaw practically hit the floor.

I had seen this property in a handful of recent photos from other industry friends and was even supposed to photograph a styled shoot there so I was excited, to say the least!

Honestly no photos do the property justice in my opinion… until Brooke and Mark’s of course.

I loved that the three of us were just in awe of the property with every step we took. We discussed the history of the property and what stories the structure could tell and if we could only hear them all.

I could picture myself as a child would sitting on the floor listening to stories from grandparents. That’s what makes me love heirlooms so much and why I’m infatuated with creating my couples heirlooms. My reason and passion is just that… the story I am curating for my couples to have and share for the many generations to come.

The Location:

James Dooley built this Rome inspired mansion for his wife Sarah as a testimony of his love for her. It took over 300 artisans and 8 years to complete.

If you love architecture, this is a must see property.

When I was researching about the property, knowing that we would be doing an engagement session there, I thought how perfect it was for this type of session.

LOVE is present there; filling every place, completely captivating you with it. What more could you ask for as your backdrop as you celebrate one of the most amazing milestones in your life preparing to become one flesh. Check out more from Swannanoa here.

My Couple:

Brooke and Mark are among the unsung heroes and I am truly grateful for their hearts.

When we first had our phone date to see if we were a great fit for each other, I remember scribbling all over the notes I had taken: “PERFECT” and “LOVE LOVE LOVE”.

My instinct was right and we truly are a perfect match. I cannot wait until their wedding next year.

Also… I got to meet DUKE! He enjoyed exploring with us and I lost track as to how many treats I got to give him haha. He joined in on lots of the photos and even posed for Family Time which stole my heart.

Brooke, Mark and Duke, you three are awesome and I am so thankful and glad that you chose me!

Enjoy a few favorites of my people and my new fur friend.
