Planning A Micro Wedding

July 30, 2020

Covid-19 has tried really hard to cancel all the things this 2020. I get it, we want to keep our loved ones safe! But it doesn’t mean you have to cancel your wedding!

I know scaling down your wedding will be difficult, just keep in mind that your guests may scale it down for you! A smaller, more intimate wedding can be just as stunning as a large one, and by downsizing your list, you can upscale your wedding!

There are so many different ways that you can keep everyone sanitized and safe while celebrating your big day together!

Here are a few unique ideas for planning a micro-wedding from the past few I’ve had the honor to shoot!

Live Stream the Wedding – I second shot for a wedding where the groom was from Guam. Since his family couldn’t be there, they live-streamed the whole thing on a tripod!

Hand Washing Stations & Masks – One styled shoot we did used a bar cart that matched the decor and had hand sanitizers and masks to help keep others safe! With so many mask options today, you can definitely order some to match your micro-wedding style!

Move Your Wedding Outdoors – I know, I know, it’s Summer. And the heat and humidity can be pretty unbearable, but moving your wedding outdoors allows you to have more space between guests! One wedding venue had the dancing outside on the patio and because of their glass doors, those who chose to stay inside could still see the dancing going on!

Cocktail Hour – Instead of everyone grabbing drinks and foods off of platters and tables, one wedding had gift boxes with hors d’oeuvres of crackers and brie cheese! Such a great idea!

Separate Tables By Family – Those who quarantine together, sit together! It’s a good rule to keep in mind as you plan those seating arrangements!

What about food? Well, I’ve noticed that the catering staff are doing all that they can to help you keep everyone safe. They stay six feet apart, wear gloves and masks, and they are serving all the food so that the guests won’t touch a thing!

If you’re a Virginia Bride and are looking a venue that will be perfect for your Micro-Wedding, here are the ones that have done all that they can to help your dream come to life during this time!

Here’s a tip for all my photographers shooting weddings during this season- make sure you bring the appropriate lenses! Because with the right lens, you can stay six feet apart from the bride and groom and all their guests but still capture some close up shots!

I hope that helps those of you who are planning a micro-wedding during this Covid season! And besides, who says you can’t have an even bigger party to celebrate once everyone can be together again? Just saying! 🙂
